The Carbon Disclosure Project, which holds the largest database of corporate climate change information in the world, has recognized Air Products' approach to climate change disclosure and named the company to its Leadership Index for 2009.

Of the S&P500, only the top 50 companies' responses to the CDP's questionnaire are included in its Leadership Index, which highlights the "constituent companies displaying the most professional approach to corporate governance in climate change disclosure practices." Companies were scored based on their responses to the CDP's questions that ranged from greenhouse gas emissions and reduction targets, to risks and opportunities associated with climate change.

John McGlade, Air Products' chairman, president and chief executive officer, said, "We are very proud to have our climate change disclosure practices again be recognized by the CDP and to be included in the prestigious Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index as a best-in-class company. Along with our Sustainability Council, our Greenhouse Gas Strategy Team serves as our center of excellence companywide, and we continue to explore new markets and develop technology solutions that contribute to cleaner energy and improved environmental performance and efficiency."

For example, Air Products is a leader in hydrogen fueling infrastructure, with nearly 100 fueling stations engineered and installed globally; liquefied natural gas equipment; ion transport membrane technologies for efficient power production; electronic materials for photovoltaics; high efficiency burner systems for glass and steel manufacturing; performance materials for environmentally friendly coatings and adhesives; and carbon capture and purification technologies, including proprietary oxyfuel technology, which leverages the company's strengths in tonnage-scale oxygen production and advanced separation technology for potential carbon capture applications.

In Spain Carburos Metálicos has a Center of Excellence on CO2, MATGAS, born as an alliance between the company Carburos Metálicos -Group Air Products-, the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) that has become a cutting-edge center in the development of sustainable energy sources. MATGAS works on the reduction of emissons of CO2 and other greenhouse effect gases and develops new technologies for the capture, transformation and use of CO2 also including other research topics related to hydrogen and alternative energy sources.

Among the projects in which Carburos Metalicos and MATGAS are collaborating, is worth to highlight the CENIT SOST- CO2 focused on the development of technologies to use CO2 as raw material as an alternative to its capture and geological sequestration. This project is lead by Carburos Metalicos and funded by CDTI through the programm Ingenio 2010, and MATGAS being the technical coordinator.
