MatGas, a center of excellence on CO2 born as a joint venture among Carburos Metálicos- Air Products Group, the Spanish National Research Council (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas-CSIC) and the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona-UAB) has initiated a Seminar Series on CO2 and related issues.

MatGas aims at contributing at different levels in the research and development of technologies for CO2 capture and utilization, working in the improvement of green technologies, friendly with the environment. The objective of this series of seminars is to acquire and divulgate a solid knowledge of the state of the art in the field of CO2 capture, utilization and energy issues associated to environmentally benign energy technology.

Several international experts on CO2 capture, sequestration, utilization and energy related issues (including hydrogen) have been and will be invited to participate at this series. Their expertise gives a broad perspective to the subject: from fundamental knowledge to well developed technologies. The complementary approach will enlighten the issues and challenges on this relevant topic.

The seminar series was inaugurated on December 2007. A list of invited speakers who already participated includes: Prof. Alain Demourgues, from ICMCB-CNRS-University of Bordeaux 1 (France), Dr. J. Angel Menendez, from INCAR-CSIC (Spain), Prof. Ken Seddon, from Belfast (UK), Prof. Mercedes Maroto-Valer from University of Nottingham (UK), Dr. Santiago Sabugal, president of the Spanish CO2 Platform (Spain) and Prof. Bob Armstrong, Deputy Director of the MIT Center for Energy Initiative (USA)

These seminars are held on monthly basis at the MatGas building (Campus Universitat Autonoma de  Barcelona), if you want to receive information, please contact Ms. Montse Salas  (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).

Short Bio

Roberta Pacciani
Ms. Roberta Pacciani joined the Combustion and Granular Materials Group at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology, University of Cambridge, in 2005 as a research student. She is currently completing her PhD on "Ca-based solid sorbents for capturing CO2 at high temperature" under the supervision of Dr John Dennis. She holds a Degree in Chemical Engineering from the Universita' degli Studi di Genova, Italy; during her undergraduate studies she spent 18 months at University College London (UCL), first as an Erasmus student (2001-2002), and then as a visiting student (2003-04) to complete her research project on "CFD modelling of liquid-solid fluidised beds in slugging regime" under the joint supervision of Dr Paola Lettieri (UCL) and Prof. Renzo Di Felice (Universita' di Genova). She is the author of several scientific publications based on solid adsorbent for CO2 capture. She was received several prizes and awards for her scientific work, including the first prize of The Young Researcher's Award at the Particle Technology Forum held at Heriot-Watt University (Edinburgh) in 2008.
