Water treatment
Clean water is a process problem before it is a membrane problem. The centre works on the chemistry and control of treatment.
Why it matters
Industrial wastewater and leisure water have different contaminants, different discharge limits and different operating constraints. A treatment route that works in one setting may fail in another. The centre's work starts from the water and the process, not from a single technology.
How we approach it
We study neutralisation, oxidation and biological treatment routes, including ozone, advanced oxidation and peroxide based processes. The work includes process control and the integration of treatment steps. Laboratory results are used to design pilot trials, and the environmental effect of the treatment itself is considered.
Focus areas
- Industrial wastewater neutralisation
- Ozone and advanced oxidation
- Peroxide based treatment
- Biological gas treatment
- Process control and integration
Selected project context
Water treatment work has been carried out alongside projects on gas handling and process control. The combination is useful because many treatment steps depend on gas transfer, pH control and reliable measurement.
