Bulk soft magnetic materials from milled amorphous ribbons

Processing amorphous ribbons by ball milling to obtain bulk soft magnetic materials.

Soft magnetic materials are used where a magnetic field has to be directed or switched with low loss. Amorphous alloys can have useful magnetic properties, but their shape is often limited by the rapid solidification process that makes them.

The study examines ball milling of amorphous FeNbBCu ribbons as a route to bulk material. The processing step changes the powder and the consolidated material, so the magnetic response has to be followed through the whole route.
