Supercritical synthesis of core shell nanoparticles for imaging
A one pot supercritical route to biocompatible core shell particles designed as contrast agents for magnetic resonance imaging.
Magnetic resonance imaging relies on contrast agents to make certain tissues easier to distinguish. Iron oxide cores can shorten relaxation times, but they need a biocompatible shell and a controlled size to work well.
The study uses a supercritical fluid route to make core shell particles in a single pot. The approach aims to combine the iron oxide core with a silica shell while keeping the particle characteristics suitable for imaging.
