Aluminium alloys as hydrogen sources for fuel cells

Whether aluminium and its alloys can provide a practical source of hydrogen for fuel cell applications.

A fuel cell needs a supply of hydrogen at the right purity and pressure. Storing hydrogen as a chemical precursor and releasing it on demand is one way to avoid the difficulties of storing the gas itself.

The study assesses aluminium and aluminium alloys as hydrogen sources for fuel cells. It considers the reaction behaviour and the practical conditions that would be needed for a useable supply, rather than only the laboratory yield.
